Statue of Leif Erickson who landed there over 1000 years ago and thus the Viking Settlement was born. We will step back in time as we venture out to
L’Anse aux Meadows, home of the Viking People and the remains of the Norse buildings.
After lunch (
on your own), you’ll have two great options to choose from:
You can step back in time with a visit to the
Grenfell Historic Properties, where you’ll learn about the incredible work of Dr. Wilfred Grenfell and his impact on the people of Newfoundland (a must for history buffs!).
Or, for those craving adventure, you can join
Northland Discovery Boat Tours (
additional cost) for a breathtaking cruise along the scenic coastline—keep your eyes peeled for whales, seabirds, and maybe even an iceberg!
Later this afternoon, we’ll stop at
Fox Point (Fishing Point) Lighthouse & Gift Shop, a perfect spot to stretch your legs, snap some stunning photos, and maybe pick up a keepsake or two.
Tonight for dinner, we will enjoy a great meal at a wonderful local restaurant where we will also have an “Old-Fashioned Newfoundland Kitchen Party” with dancing and of course you will all become “Honorary Newfoundlanders” and be Screeched-In!

Relax as the friendly crew proudly introduces us to outport Newfoundland’s way of life, charisma and hospitality that attract visitors from around the globe.
The two (2) hour tour is supported by a compelling narrative, highlighting the natural and cultural history of Newfoundland. The vessel offers open decks for unobstructed viewing, heated cabin and washroom facilities. Full bar service and light snacks are available for purchase. DAY 6: SATURDAY, JULY 4 – (GANDER TO CLARENVILLE) BONAVISTA & TRINITY (1 NIGHT)
Today after breakfast, we head out to the historical town of Bonavista. We will visit “
The Matthew Legacy”. The Matthew is a replica of a caravel sailed by
John Cabot in 1497 from
Bristol to North America, presumably Newfoundland. After a voyage which had got no further than
Iceland, Cabot left again with only one vessel, the Matthew, a small ship (50 tons), but fast and able.
We will have lunch at the historic harbor front area and then after lunch we will visit
Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and the
Puffin Colony.
Built in 1843, the lighthouse at Cape Bonavista is one of the few in the world where you can still climb up the stone tower and see the same seal oil fueled catoptric light apparatus that was used in the 1800s. Experience a light keeper's day in 1870 - a 24-7 job of polishing glass, filling oil lamps, recording weather patterns and watching the waves from one of the most rugged points in Newfoundland. A great destination to watch for whales, icebergs and puffins in summer.
Next, we’ll head to Trinity and visit the
Old Trinity Historic Site (
optional add-on, payable on-site), where you can explore the rich history of the area. If you prefer, enjoy the stunning views and take a leisurely stroll through this charming historic town.
